Define the complete journey between floors
A useful quote begins with where the person needs to go, not just the number of steps. Include the first and last landings, any turn and the room or corridor reached at the top. Ask the assessor to explain the final chair position with nearby doors open. If a mobility aid is needed after arrival, discuss how that aid will be available at each level.
The Triangle installation routes include straight and turning stairlifts, but a published range does not establish suitability for an individual user. Request a demonstration of the proposed boarding and exit movements. If the plan involves getting out midway, ask why that arrangement is appropriate and what alternatives were considered. Include the person making the daily journey in the discussion, even when a relative manages the quote.
101 Mobility of Raleigh–Triangle · Next Day Access Raleigh-DurhamPlan a demonstration without assuming a local storefront
The Chapel Hill manufacturer listing identifies Triangle businesses rather than establishing a showroom in the town. 101 Mobility advertises a Raleigh showroom. Before arranging transport, ask which model is working, whether its seat and controls match the proposal and whether staff can review your staircase photographs during the appointment. A demonstration of another model may help, but it should not be presented as proof of fit.
If a home assessment is more practical, ask what it covers and who receives its measurements. Find out whether the installer or a separate surveyor is responsible for the final layout. Keep a copy of the agreed rail route and any drawings. If the layout changes after an assessment, obtain written confirmation of the new price and the implications for timing before giving approval.
101 Mobility of Raleigh–Triangle · Next Day Access Raleigh-DurhamAsk what rental and aftercare really include
For a temporary need, request a proposal with all initial, recurring and removal charges together. Ask whether a change in the person’s circumstances allows early termination or conversion to a purchase. Do not assume the package advertised for one stair shape can be fitted to another, and do not rely on a general rental menu to establish that the required seat options are available.
For a purchase, keep the product warranty separate from the installer’s support. Lifeway’s Raleigh page describes three years of parts cover and one year of labor on new lifts it sells and installs. Ask for the contract terms for your actual order and identify any travel, diagnostic, consumable or maintenance costs. A headline lifetime warranty alone would not answer those questions.
Next Day Access Raleigh-Durham · Lifeway Mobility Raleigh-DurhamChoose the correct Orange Habitat repair pathway
Orange Habitat’s current repairs page distinguishes Home Preservation for qualifying non-Habitat homeowners from HELP for existing Orange Habitat owners. The latter describes affordable repair-payment arrangements including zero-interest loans; the former describes accepted work at low or no cost. The programs share an application and serve qualifying Orange County owner-occupants. These are different assistance arrangements, not two names for an unrestricted stairlift grant.
Describe the access problem and ask whether the proposed equipment is within the work the team can currently undertake. Have the organization confirm that the property is in its service area rather than relying on a Chapel Hill mailing address. Ask whether an assessment is needed, how urgent work is prioritized and whether you should postpone any deposit until a decision has been made.
Orange Habitat home repairs ↗Treat older county application years cautiously
Orange County’s repair page describes urgent-repair and rehabilitation pathways but retains older cycle labels, including a 2024 urgent-repair reference. As checked October 17, 2026, that wording does not establish a current intake. Ask the housing team for the live program year, available funding and exact property rules before spending time on forms intended for a past cycle.
Also ask about the form of assistance. The county descriptions involve forgivable loans with conditions, not simply cash paid to the homeowner on request. Have the program explain any recorded security, occupancy requirements and approval-before-work rules relevant to the current offer. Keep that decision separate from the installer’s financing proposal so the two sets of obligations are not accidentally treated as interchangeable.
