Stairlift buying guide
Curved stairlifts.
Get a quote for stairs with turns, intermediate landings or a route across several floors. The important choice is the complete journey: where the rider boards, where the lift stops and where the chair parks after use.

At a glance.
- Best starting point
- A route that changes direction or continues across a landing instead of ending after one straight flight.
- Main design question
- Does the proposed rail cover the whole journey, including every intended stop and parking position?
- Before placing an order
- Approve the measured route and get the production, installation and change terms for the chosen system.
Curved rails are not all made the same way
Bruno’s Elite Curved uses a rail made for the staircase; Acorn’s 180 uses a modular rail system. Both still require a layout matched to the home. Ask the assessor which approach is proposed, who confirms the dimensions and when the final design becomes an order.
Separate time spent installing from time waiting for measurement, equipment or production. A manufacturer’s fast-installation advertisement does not reserve a date for your address. Establish the next confirmed milestone and any preparation that could delay it.

Check the turns, landings and parked chair
Show every bend and the space beyond the top step. Bruno lists alternative parking positions and larger seat or footrest options on its curved model. These choices can change the space needed. Acorn’s separate width guidance gives 27.5 inches for its 180, but that reference does not establish your rider’s clearance around a turn.
If someone proposes separate straight lifts, ask exactly where the rider would change chairs and have that transfer assessed. Two shorter rails and one continuous ride are different arrangements, even if both proposals reach the same floor.

Price the exact route, including installation
Bruno gives roughly $13,000 as a starting example for a curved rail with a base bend and states that installation and options add to the guidance. It is not a complete installed quote or a national average. Number of stops, parking extensions and selected functions belong in the agreed scope.
Before paying, get the full installed total and the terms for changing or cancelling the order. Record any separate electrical work or approvals and who arranges them. Keep the route drawing beside the proposal so later changes are visible.
Used equipment and rental can still be considered
A used chair does not establish that its former rail fits your stairs. Ask the supplier to identify what would be reused, what rail work is required and which warranty applies. Stannah advertises reconditioned curved equipment and curved rentals, so neither option should be dismissed categorically.
Availability is address- and configuration-specific. Request the full rental obligation, installation, removal and extension terms. Do not assume a temporary need means a low setup charge or that later rent reduces the purchase balance.

Agree where it parks and charges
Bruno’s indoor curved model charges at the rail ends, with an optional middle charging point. Confirm the arrangement for your proposed model, especially if the chair will often stop on an intermediate floor. Ask the installer to demonstrate parking and leave the local repair contact with the manual.

These are published manufacturer examples, not hands-on reviews or a guarantee of suitability. A qualified installer must assess the rider and the property. Prices, stock and terms can change.
