Separate the chairlift application from City preparation work

L&I directs residential inclined chairlift applications to form F621-005-000. Mercer Island separately routes single-family electrical permits through MyBuildingPermit and publishes a permit-type directory for other work. These routes serve different parts of the project; the City must confirm the local scope for the proposed installation.

Ask the supplier to identify the licensed elevator contractor, equipment application and required acceptance steps. Give the City the same model, layout and description of any landing, doorway or power changes. Assign responsibility for each submission, fee and inspection in the proposal. A quote that includes the rail should state whether it also includes the extra trade work. Agree who resolves a review comment before treating an installation date as firm.

Use the remote permit route and distinguish initial from annual inspection

The City’s current closure notice says permit services remain online with staff available remotely. Its permit directory directs unlisted project types to general submittal instructions and provides a contact for missing information. Confirm the required application before uploading documents.

WAC 296-96-01045 requires initial inspection of new, altered or relocated conveyances used exclusively by a single family in a private residence. It separately removes the annual inspection and operating-certificate requirement for that use unless requested by the owner. Accident or violation investigations remain possible.

Ask the installer and L&I to confirm the actual device and use classification. Shared stairs or a changed use should be described explicitly. Keep the application, approval and equipment records together, and obtain the manufacturer’s maintenance instructions; an annual regulatory exception does not answer what servicing the selected unit needs.

Screen the address and repayment terms with King County

King County’s repair program serves eligible households in much of the county. The loan criteria include owner occupancy, income, equity and asset conditions. Passing the geographic check shown above does not establish household eligibility or coverage of a stairlift.

Before paying a supplier deposit, ask whether the program needs its own assessment, bid selection or authorization. Describe the actual access barrier and any related repair work separately. Compare the approved assistance terms with the supplier’s cancellation and payment schedule, rather than subtracting a possible award from the quote.

Compare an assessed installation with a named service provider

Moore Elevator names Mercer Island in its service territory. Olympic Elevator and JWS publish broader regional routes, so confirm acceptance of the exact address before relying on a home visit. The reviewed supplier pages did not establish a complete local installed price or rental agreement.

Send each assessor the same list of destinations and ask for a drawing showing where the chair stops and parks. If the home has more than one flight, compare the complete journey, including any proposed transfer, rather than the price of only one flight.
