Survey the entire San Francisco stair route
A useful request identifies where the journey starts and ends: pavement to front door, garage to living space, or one floor to another. If there is a vestibule, intermediate landing or another entrance flight, include it. The same home can require separate answers for exterior access and the indoor staircase; a quote for one flight should state exactly what it leaves unresolved.
For shared stairs, explain the building arrangement before a rail is specified. Ask how the parked chair, rail end and open doors interact with the route other occupants use. The installer needs site measurements and the relevant approval information. These are assessment questions, not assumptions that a narrow stairway will fit or that a shared staircase can be treated like a private interior flight.
Lifeway Mobility San Francisco Bay Area · Stannah Northern CaliforniaCurved rentals are possible enquiries, with a different payment structure
Stannah explicitly includes straight and curved models in its Northern California rental offer. Its published direct program generally collects an initial six-month payment covering fitting, service and removal, followed by monthly continuation. Later payments after six months do not reduce the purchase balance. Confirm the version of the agreement offered for your home, including the non-refundable initial commitment.
This distinction matters if you expect a brief recovery but are unsure of the end date. Ask for written totals at your likely removal date and at a later purchase date. A lower recurring payment can conceal a larger initial commitment. Mobility 4U also advertises rentals but specializes in straight lifts; the reviewed page does not establish an equivalent curved offer or the same payment structure.
Stannah Northern California · Mobility 4U Stair LiftsBook the current showroom address before travelling
Lifeway’s current San Francisco branch and dedicated showroom page identify 688 E. Gish Road, Suite 30, in San Jose. The showroom describes straight and curved equipment, powered options and virtual demonstrations. Older pages and printed material still reference Union City, so use the current appointment confirmation rather than an old address found in search results.
Ask which working chair will be available and whether it matches the features under consideration. Try the belt, controls, footrest and swivel with the intended rider if possible. The visit can help choose features, but it cannot establish the installation clearance at home. Keep the final selection conditional on the measured staircase and the rider’s actual access needs.
Lifeway Mobility San Francisco Bay AreaPut service, removal and re-use terms in the proposal
The reviewed providers describe ongoing service, and Mobility 4U also advertises a reuse and buyback program. Before purchasing, ask who owns the removal obligation and whether any resale figure is guaranteed or depends on model, condition and future demand. Keep that answer separate from the new equipment price so an uncertain resale promise does not make the purchase look artificially cheaper.
For a rental, ask whether routine maintenance and call-outs are included for the whole term and what happens when you convert to ownership. For either arrangement, identify the dispatch contact, possible travel charges and the plan if a part is unavailable. A statement that a business serves the Bay Area does not establish a specific response window for your property.
Mobility 4U Stair Lifts · Lifeway Mobility San Francisco Bay Area · Stannah Northern CaliforniaCoordinate local support and the installation handover
The San Francisco DAS Benefits and Resources Hub offers referrals for older adults, adults with disabilities and caregivers. Its current location page gives 2 Gough Street and a referral line at 415-355-6700. Use it to discuss a broader home-support plan, including questions that a stairlift installer cannot answer about services or program eligibility.
The City’s inspection guidance explains how to schedule building and related inspections. Ask the installer which approvals and inspections apply to the actual work, who arranges them and what completion documents you receive. This resource is not evidence that every stairlift follows one permit category. Have any required sign-off and user training included in the handover plan before the job begins.
