Research standards
What counts as original evidence.
A practical protocol for accepting quotes, documenting installations and adding specialist reviews. These are publication requirements, not claims that the work has already been performed.
Written quotes and invoices
- Obtain permission from the document owner and identify whether the document is an estimate, accepted contract or final invoice.
- Remove personal names, street addresses, signatures, phone numbers, account numbers and hidden file metadata before publication.
- Record month/year, broad region, exact model, new/used condition, rail configuration, options, included work, taxes and exclusions.
- Check the arithmetic, currency and payment stages. Distinguish financed totals, deposits and recurring service from the installed purchase price.
- Publish sample size and selection limits. Correct or withdraw unverifiable entries; do not publish a national average from unlike projects.
No customer quote or invoice has been accepted into the current published-price collection.
Installation case studies and showroom visits
Record the date, place, participants and their roles. Obtain permission for images and interviews. Describe who observed the project and who supplied the account; identify sponsor or manufacturer involvement.
Use original images for our own firsthand reports. Show the relevant staircase constraint without exposing a private address. Explain the choices considered, the selected configuration, the professional assessment and any unresolved issue. A manufacturer or installer’s account remains attributed to that organization.
For showroom reviews, document exact models, tasks attempted and conditions. Record measurements only when a consistent method supports them. Do not turn a brief demonstration into an unsupported claim about long-term reliability, safety or every user’s experience.
After installation
With the participant’s permission, record whether the original access need was met, the handover and service experience, and any subsequent changes. Separate personal testimony from technical conclusions. Add follow-up dates so readers can see the duration covered.
Specialist review
A reviewer receives the complete article, sources and intended audience. They check claims within their qualifications, identify necessary changes and approve the final wording they reviewed. Publish their name, relevant credentials, scope, date and commercial interests only with permission. Re-review material changes.
Contribution enquiries
Do not send unredacted invoices, medical records or private home photographs through a general quote enquiry. A research contribution needs an agreed consent and redaction process first.
